iliv2fish-what's the story?
Anyone know anything about this guy. he seems to keep coming up with these fanatistic razors all the time. I know he's rescaling them and he does fantastic work with a a variety of materials but where is he getting these razors from or is he some master restorer or something?

I can't believe how high that Puma Gold razor is going - blew through the price I had in mind to bid on it by the 2nd day of the listing.

Thanked: 2209Robert has been around for a long time. He is a great resource for all of us. Why he sells on Ebay is beyond me.
The only thing I have on Robert is a Fenslers Ruby hone that I got on a BIN just the other day!Randolph Tuttle, a SRP Mentor for residents of Minnesota & western Wisconsin

Thanked: 324Fernsler's Ruby hones are small hones that I have taken a fancy to. Sorry I missed this earlier. I tend to only sell on Ebay when I need to turn some of my collection into cash for more materials or tools. I'm much more partial to buying and collecting than I am to selling, but I've got a lot in R&D, tools for the shop, etc. I'm going to try to sneak a gas fired forge into the house next.
Here's one that goes to John Crowley:
It's mammoth ivory, top grade abalone, titanium scales, nickel silver pins and wedge and stainless steel pinning.
Here's a hunting knife I made recently from 1095 high carbon steel. I'm planning on prototyping razors out of 1095 and then see about doing some out of CPM-S60V, but one step at a time.

Well I'll be danged. Good thing I say anything nasty about him then he wouldn't sell me anymore of his straights!

My god, incredible stuff.
By what method did you acheive that remarkable mirror finish on the knife?

Thanked: 324How did I get the mirror finish on the knife? A lot of polishing, LOL. When forging and heat treating your own blades, you can work the steel while it's annealed and soft and and once hardened, there won't be much polishing required. Razors, on the other hand must be forged into blanks, then hardened, then ground, then polished. Much of the grinding and polishing takes place while the blade is fully hardened and must be done at a cool temperature to prevent any drawing or annealing. Thanks for the very compementary remarks.
Bigspendur, if you'd have said something mean about me, I'd have still sold you stuff. I'd have just charged you a lot more.

On the S60V, though, do you think you'll still be able to get a fine enough edge? Would the carbide content in this steel cause too coarse an edge, or be prone to chipping out?
