    Default Time in Customs JFK

I bought a Filarmonica that's coming from Portugal. The tracking shows it arriving in customs, at JFK, New York, yesterday morning. What's a good estimate of when it may be leaving?

Should be out of customs in short order even if it is opened for inspection.

I had a fishing reel (a Hardy Float Reel) take more than a month once. No kidding! It arrived there (from England) and then remained in perpetuity for infinitum. Of course, this was some years ago, but whe it happened I contacted the shipper and they said it had arrived and that it was probably hung up in customs. It took so long I doubted their story, then one day, wallaha, it appeared. So, don't be surprised.

A hone from England: 4 weeks (Royal Mail & USPS)
A hone from Netherlands: 2 weeks (Dutch Mail & USPS)
Razors from Germany: 1 week (DHL) <--- That was expensive shipping

In the U.S things usually spend hours in customs. Unless the paperwork is bad or its an item on "the list" or they are having a blitz or your item is the random "close look" or something unusual happens that's how it goes.

well i have only ever gotten one razor seized in customs, and all i got was a letter telling me they destroyed the razor. i know of one member who lost a 7 day set and IIRC he also only got a letter. in both cases pre-1900 razors. now i just simply do not even try.YMMV,jim
