Antique finds
Today I went to multiple antique stores today to look for straight razors and de razors and barber hones and boy did I find some but man expensive. I found a keen mutter for 60 bucks and I found a barber hone for 39 and a boker " our own" for 90 bucks and man that's crazy is anyone else having better luck

I did the same thing today. It seemed like the only razors $20 or under had cracked scales or there was pitting at the edge. Apparently there has been a lot of people buying up safety razors as well lately.

I found an F. von Borsy-Steinberg in 7/8;s and a Torrey in 5/8's at a local gun show a few weeks ago. I'll post them in this forum after Jr. takes some pics maybe later this weekend. I really haven't been looking for razors lately, CarrieM spotted the von Borsy-Steinberg for me and the Torrey for herself. I have found that the local shops have had higher prices and less to find when I do go looking.

Thanked: 4249When i find a razor i like in a local antique store, i make an offer for it regardless of the price marked, and had good luck usually they will go for it or maybe close, its not like there a line of people waiting to buy straight razors.

I've been hearing from shop owners that they've been selling a lot more razors lately. That could be just my area but who knows.

It's as much antique sellers seeing a W&B going for $300 on eBay as it is an uptick in SR users...a rising tide lifts all boats.
That being said, I did find a lovely 7 day set with ivory scales for a song, so there are deals to be had...

Ebay to some degree establishes the going price for straight razors. And, most antique shop sellers aren't in touch with Ebay prices, and price their razors too high. I offer them just what I am willing to pay, but first tell them I am a user and not collector so they won't feel I am low balling them.
