I just dont get it...I cant imagine they are THAT good to warrant the price tag, yes I understand the whole emotional attachment, but from a strictly shaving point of view, I just dont get it.

Thanked: 346There are also collectors out there who don't even shave with them, but still pony up the bucks.
And people tend to spend more money in the heat of the auction than they would if you just walked up and offered it to them.

Yes JL they are that good ,I have some of them, one I shave with once or twice a month, and they are exceptional shavers . I bought most of mine a long time ago, so didnt pay much for them(one was $55.00 and is still new in the box)

Thanked: 9Gary,
So are you saying that if, somehow, you lost all of yours, you would not hesitate to pay $405 now to get one?
I am just asking because as Michael just suggested in another thread, this might be the best indication of value... of course, we have to bear in mind that some people have more resources at their disposal than others, etc.
And, for the record, I love my Goldedge 6/8 and the 7/8 Satinedge gave me some of the best shaves ever. (Currently waiting to receive a Wonderedge) So I do believe that the 8/8 Goldedge might be a truly fab shaver. To think that it cost $55... why did I wait for so long before getting into straights?
Cheers

Dear Ivo,
I think I would buy one for that price(but it would sting), if I didnt have one in my collection. I guess it all depends on what you like. I recently saw a Wade and Butcher Celebrated(Fredrick Remington Special) sell for 1400.00 to a cowboy collector.I have one of these and would have guessed it was worth maybe 400.00. As with any other collectables they are worth what the market will bear at the time.
I think you are right about some buyers who will pay just about anything if they want an item.Several years ago a Saudi paid 450,000.00 for a Rolex(the watch was worth150.000.00) he said he overpaid because he just liked the way it looked, some months later the watch resold in London for around 135,000.00.I guess he got tired of looking at it.I guess some people (not me)have so much money they dont have to be concerned with sale price
Best regards and happy shaving GaryLast edited by Traveller; 11-21-2006 at 02:43 PM.
