You'll want to wrap it in saran wrap to keep stuff from building up in the hollows.

In our house, my older brother got Dad's belt. But, speaking of crazy women, by the time my sister and I came along, mom wanted in on the fun and favored a wooden spoon. To this day, my sister and I mimic her sinister, cackly announcement that "It's wooden spoon time..."

And yet, I survived to adulthood and am not ashamed to be judged by the company I keep.

    Psycho women!!!
Ditto, most of the heavy duty attitude adjustments were handled by my Mom. She wasn't nearly as predictable as the old man and would generally use whatever was handy. She was no one to tangle with for sure.

You guys are lucky. my grandmother had a weeping willow in her yard. The only th ing worse than getting smacked with one of those branches was the long walk out to cut the branch yourself.

My brother and I have cut our share of willows. The whipping sound could be heard from the other side of the house, and was a reminder to us all that SWMBOs (of the older variety) must not be angered.

Those didn't double as a strop after their intended use either, unlike this one.

    That's too funny.
Im a little ashamed to say that as a youngster my old man, who was a barber, used to "correct" me using his strop. Now, using the logic I had accumulated by this time, I figured if i destroyed it, I would never get the strop again. So (here's the hold yer breath part) i took his straight razor and reduced it to pieces no bigger than an inch square
Then again i wasnt aware of the willow switch thing
Sure wish i had that old strop now
    Great thread Jimbo

My mom favored the wooden spoon, one day I got alittle too big for my britches and mom went for her spoon and she broke it on my behind, well I laughed at that...big mistake. She came back with the unbreakable plastic spoon that carried some serious sting to it, I think I still have the mark on my backside.

my mom favored the wire handled fly swatter, but also used paddleball paddles or wooden spoons.

As a recipient of attitude adjustment by a father born in 1916, whose tools included leather belts in both slender and wide varieties, paddles, and even a cat of 9 tails (quickly reduced to 6 tails, 5,4,3,2..) I say you DONT know what an ass whoppin is, and should be supremely grateful for that!
Seriously though, punishment of back when, could certainly be considered child abuse by even LAST generations standards.

That's where the old saying, "a number ten up your butt" comes from.
