Default Looking for a bigger blade... thoughts on this?

    Gentlemen,

I have been looking for an affordable SR with a bigger blade to try since my top flight is a 4/8. I found this Wostenholm EBRO that seems to be in decent condition. What are your thoughts before I make a bid. I do like the aesthetics of it as well. Here is the link:

I have about 20 or so shave-ready razors and four in regular rotation. Of those, my hands-down favourite is a J Wostenholme EBRO. Mine is a bit bigger than that and a different blade shape, but the steel is excellent. If I hadn't blown my RAD budget on coffee brewing goodies this month, I would probably be bidding on that one. However this time around I at least won't be bidding against you. Just don't forget to factor in the cost of a pro honing if you're not honing yourself.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Forgot to say that I'm far from an expert on scales, but those look like celluloid to me, not horn. Just a heads-up.

Although on second thought, they could be tortoise shell...

Definitely that is not horn. It is celluloid, however in good condition and not still affected by rot.

I did not think it was horn.. looked like a celluloid tortoise shell to me, but hey I'm still learning. I believe my Top Flight is a spike point as well no? I know its not a round point.

Spikes/square points are fine as long as you remember to pay careful attention to what is going on at that end of the blade. Trust me on that!!

    Celluloid or faux tortoise.

My Top Flight is certainly a Spike, and a wicked one at that. Looking forward to your photos...

Hard to tell from a photo but razors of that vintage are commonly dyed horn made to resemble tortoise shell. That would be my bet.

Awesome! Thanks for your imput. I do have a question. How will I tell when I receive it? Is there a different feel?
