    A SWEET 16,

Learned to hunt dove with one of those when I was a kid in Grayson County. Actually I graduated from a Mod 42 .410 to a Sweet 16. Killin dove got EASY with that 16 after using that .410

The one I had got stolen when I was in 'Nam along with some other nice old family guns.

Had several A-5's over the years. Even had a 12ga 3" Magnum version. That full choked monster w/3" ammo was NOT fun to shoot but it was impressive. Took it dove hunting right after I got it and stoked it up with 3" ammo. Found out I needed to shoot 'em at around 40 yards out. Pureed dove ain't much good........ It kind of turned 'em inside out at anything less than 30 yards. I burned up a box of 3" stuff, my shoulder looked like raw meat so I switched
the rings around and turned back to target loads.

I doubled my money on that thing when I got rid of it. Wasn't sorry to see it go. Gave Dad's old Sweet 16 to my sister to hang on the wall of her NEW ranch house. Hadn't shot in 30 years.

Still got the Mod 42 though.

Nice! I learned to shoot with the same but a 12ga. I learned real quick the meaning of keeping it tight in the pocket lol.

I remember my first Whitewing hunt. By the afternoon, I would start to cry whenever I brought that R1100 12 ga. up to my shoulder.

Everyone told me an A5 would kick hard. I really did not think it was so bad. I shoot mostly O/U now and this sucker had to come off the trigger guard of my Ruger as quick as possible! Kindof like a shoulder rash, when it hit the middle finger once, it hit it all day long! Talk about cryin! Ain't done it since. Been meaning to send it to Mr Bill so he can see!

Only reason that A-5 ate me up was those damned 3" MAGNUM artillery rounds I was running through it. I've had a couple of 2 3/4" A-5's and they are a dream to shoot with 3dr eqv, 1 1/8th oz loads field or target loads.

I worked at trap and skeet range in high school. I shot up most of my wages and the boss loved it.

I got pretty salty on the trap range and I bought a Browning "Double Automatic". It was basically an A-5 internally but it only held two shots and didn't have the "hump back" profile. Funny thing about that beast was that the recoil was almost as bad forward as it was rearward. After three hundred rounds or so, my trigger finger would be sore from that damn thing slamming forward when the went back into battery.

I traded it off for something just before I shipped out to 'Nam. Damned if I can remember what though. Oh well, Whatever it was got traded off too. LOL
