I understand the difference. I have a couple of original C-Mons. This is kind of what bothers me. The razors out there that
I posted the pic's of will deceive many new shaver and straight razor buyers. As I look at the packaging, now that the subject came up, you literally cannot tell the source or maker of the razors, not on the plastic box nor on the info sheet included in the box. "made in Germany" may not be correct either as far as I know. I knew what I was buying as a $60 or so straight but, as we know, many buyers will not know unless
they read this thread.

Well i guess there must be alot of these and other types of razors sitting in the second drawer down that people have purchased and tried to shave with them. Although they can be honed and made shave ready, you would never know unless you found a site like this, besides, of course, the ones on the "Razors to avoid" list. Lz6, you say they arrived not shave ready? What about new Dovos and the like? Do they arrive shave ready? I can only imagine how disappointed i would have been after spending a fair bit of money for a razor and strop. Luckily, i purchased one from a member here that was good to go.

Thankfully, we're involved in an enterprise/hobby where sharing knowledge ranks right up there with "owning-and-operating"... and getting it doesn't require an FOIA request.

Aside: What I found interesting was that there's no entry in the SRP Straight Razor Database for "C-MON 'Cadillac'".

I purchased one of these from the SRP classifieds from a well known member about 12 months ago and am very pleased with it after having it professionally honed by another well known member on this site. He commented on how well it took an edge and what a great shaver it turned out to be.

I recently followed this "Vintage C-MON Cadillac" auction on eBay: the Real McCoy, in beautiful condition, which ended-up going for all of $66. Sixty-six dollars! OK, we don't know how high the winner's maximum bid was -- I'm guessing $100 -- but the point is that they're out there, worth buying, and affordable.

I know... it sounds -- hell, feels -- "curmudgeonly", but I just don't like the idea of newly-manufacturing out-of-production straight razors... gone is gone... end of story. I also don't like replating DE razors, "coloring" old B&W films, or remaking Hollywood movies. But I find this ersatz "C-MON Cadillac" to be a particularly egregious example and, although they say "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery", I think that in this instance it's more along the lines of deceptive marketing practices. It's clear that the new manufacturer has the legal right to use the trademarked names "C-MON" and "Cadillac", but it's as transparent and wannabe as Detroit marketing hybrid or all-electric cars as "green"... and then selling them for the cost of a foreclosed 2BR/2BA detached house!

I'm not arguing with any of our SRP members about the quality-of-shave from a C-MON_Cadillac:TNG, but my question is this: If it were marketed as a "Dovo Edsel", would you even be reading this thread? I doubt it; I know I wouldn't. Taking a free ride on the C-MON Cadillac name is just bad for everyone.

I have to agree with JBHoren, the old C-MON to me are a work of art, yet to own one. Saw one go for less than $66 on e-bay, and the only reason it isn't on it's way to me is because they wouldn't ship international. But hey, at least it's not a "Johnny Depp" special, then you would have nothing but a folding letter opener, that's assuming they can cut paper.

Looks like the way they are marked as well. The "cadillac" looks to use the same lazer etching that Dovo uses, while the originals look stamped or electro-etched. Wondering if I could get some info on this one if no one minds?
