Thanked: 458Seems to be a lot of "gotcha" stuff on ebay lately. Between the double-price kamisoris, the $600 japanese straight razors and barely used late model razors that are more than new...
This one might be a borderline "gotcha" but 47% higher, ebay's no bargain for a buyer who doesn't know what they're looking for.

I think a Dovo. They have absconded with several of the old names. Probably OK, buy don't pay more than Dovo money!

This is the newly made C-Mon, Peter J. Michels. I am guessing but Dovo may have purchased the right to the use of the brand. The ebay offer is way to high, way to high.
Buy from the barber supply if you want one. That is where I got a couple of them. They are great shavers. Did not come shave ready but spent a few minutes on 12k and then one of my Japanese naturals, light on CrOx balsa and then stropped
on leather. I was surprised at what a great edge she took and delivered a very nice shave.
Grazor if you would like one send me a PM.Last edited by lz6; 10-03-2012 at 03:45 PM.

Thanked: 580i need another razor like i need a poke in the eye, but i do really like the older C-MON, in particular the Cadillac. Not a bad looking razor though, good price on Barber site, would look nice in some custom scales.

Thanked: 603What's In A Name? Plenty!
Peter J. Michels was the sole distributor for Carl Monkhouse's "C-MON" razors when they were manufactured in Germany, as well as after Carl Monkhouse moved his family and factory to the US (1937). Peter J. Michels ceased operations in 1955. When Carl Monkhouse moved to Allegany, NY he continued producing straight razors and other cutlery; later, his son CM Jr took over the business, and after that his grandson CM III did the honors. The business is still there, but now under a new name -- Reblade Mfg. Co.
I just got off the phone, after speaking with Carl Monkhouse III. He told me that a different firm -- Heritage Manufacturing -- has been producing C-MON razors for the last twenty years, but he doesn't know if they, or a different firm, is now producing C-MON branded razors.
What is clear is that "these" ain't "those"; in other words, look for either "Peter J. Michels", "Carl Monkhouse/Allegany, NY", or "Carl Monkhouse/Ellicottville, NY" on the tang, to be sure.Last edited by JBHoren; 10-03-2012 at 09:09 PM. No question that "these" are not "those".
This is one of the razors in question that is on the bay and available through a couple of the barber supply places,
and obviously newly made.
