It may or may not be, but isn't 440 steel what friodur razors are ultimately made of? They get a cryogenic treatment, though, which makes a significant difference on steel with a lot of carbides.

You'd have to know for sure what the carbon content of the 440 was, looking at an alloy chart and max attainable hardness, there are definitely 440s that are capable of razor use (google tells me that 440C is what is in friodurs).

@ Unit ... Definitely got the message and have replied!

Yeah, I thought $14 for a case wasn't that bad. I haven't spent a ton of time looking but have seen a bunch in the $20-$25 range and so when I saw that it looked like a better deal. I like that cheaper link a lot better for sure though.

That Antique Shop I went to was some Multi-Vendor Mall thing where there were Antiques right next to brand new stuff. I held and looked at one of these brand new trying to explain to the person working there that they were not razors and showing her some of the differences. I'll try to get back there this weekend and take some pics of a normal Str8 next to one. It is kind of a neat deal as a knife but is just a standard slipjoint folder in the shape of a razor but quite large and thick. The frame made up a lot of that so I'm definitely going to see how close in size the scales are as if you could harvest the scales for another razor and the case for whatever then you'd be cooking with gas!

I have no idea about the steel or it's capabilities... I have been honing knives for many years to shaving sharp but I wouldn't want to do my entire face with one. I can readily shave hair off the back of my hand or arm with them but I think it would pull nastily during a face shave.
