I only have a PayPal debit account (I don't have credit cards), this means that every purchase I make is via eCheck, which takes longer, but since I generally have no money in my account a few days after pay day (I'm a peasant) no-one can really rip me off...

The papers have been filled with stories lately about how companies and banks are being hacked on a daily basis. Most of the attacks are simple denial of service but others are actually getting social security numbers, bank account numbers and user ID's.

Using the internet is like having sex with a street corner hooker without a condom. So it is advisable to put on as many layers of protection as possible. Glen was correct when he advised NOT to use a bank account as a payment source. Although that is the default source of payment on PayPal, I always use a credit card instead. Actually I use my Amazon/Chase card. That way I am earning points which I can use to purchase products for free. Any such card will do. Using a CC for your purchases gives you three layers of protection: Paypal, the CC sponsor and the CC bank. I pay my card each month and incur no finance charges.

I do feel for you. I recently had my email account hacked. Friends, business acquaintances and family were getting emails with links in them supposedly from me. I had to go and change all my passwords for various email accounts and it took me a couple of hours jumping through hoops to do so.
