Thanked: 0Are these any good?
Good morning to you all. I have stumbled on some razors of my dad's that i have put up for auction on eBay. Someone last night said they might be worth more than is being bid, given the markings.
Set of cut throat razors - collectors item | eBay
There are nine straight edge razors - and in my utter ignorance I referred to them on eBay as 'cut throat' so sincere apologies if that offends, it isn't meant to, just shows my lack of knowledge.
The blades are all marked:
- Joseph Allen & Son, Sheffield
- Thomas Rudd & Sons, Sheffield; Coma Trade Mark
- In a presentation box, wooden and engraved, we have:
- A Crown with GR below, PALMER St James's St.
- A Crown with GR below, PALMER St James's St
- A Crown with WR below, PALMER St James's St
- Joseph Haywood & Compy, Makers Sheffield
- F West late PALMER cutler to Her Majesty No .. St James's St
- HF P.P.H. The Dutchess of Kent & Princess Victoria
- HF P.P.H. The Dutchess & Princess Victoria
Any guidance or suggestions would be gratefully received.
Current bid is £37.50.
Thank you
Ian

A couple pictures of all the razors, including the blades, would help develop interest. No one will buy if they can't see what they are getting.

Thanked: 2591One other point, it is not in your interest to post live auction links, as more people may get interested and should a bidding war ensue you may end up paying more than what you wanted or even be out of the bidding if it goes over your limits.
It is safer just to post the pic of the razors and ask if the condition is acceptable.
Good luckStefan

Are you, OP, hunting for feeback on whether to include a reserve in your listing.
I don't know if you should be doing that here.

OP,
So what if they are worth more than currently being bid; do the other "8" bidders get dumped & you re-list?
Something about this opening post does not sit well with me, but then again, my comprehension level on Ebays transactions is at about a 4th grade level.

Thanked: 0Who knows?
I guess where I'm coming from is this ... I know nothing about straight edge razors. My dad is 82 and these belong to him, bought from the Longleat Estate, Near Bath, England - it is the seat of Lord Bath.
We are not collectors and have no interest in keeping them. However, I do not want to get 'ripped off'. We don't necessarily want top price, but we'd like a fair price. The point of me posting the information here was simply to try and find someone who might be able to offer some advice and guidance. I accept that some of those may have a vested interested but I tend to err on the side of trusting people to do the honourable thing. Most times you're rewarded, sometimes you're taken for a ride. that's life. I have some more pics and will post them.
Thanks for all the comments.

Thanked: 0If someone on here told me they were worth £2,000 (which I'd be amazed at by the way, it's for illustrative purposes only) and I sell it for £37.50 - that's getting ripped off! If I'm told to expect about £60, I will leave it as it is on eBay and take what I get. I don't understand why the post doesn't sit well with you ... please explain?
