    Default Crazy Prices...

Went to a store in Square 1 in Mississauga Ontario today, Canada's third largest mall apparently... There was only ONE store, a tobacconist, that had REAL shaving stuff. There were a few Dovo razors including a bismark priced a $345, had the Dovo shaving cream as well for a low price of $65..... who does this guy think he is??? I guess most people don't do their research and impulse buy...

Oh I forgot to mention an alum block for $30...

There's no real point to any of this other than to relieve some of my frustration in buddy's insane markups.

That's alright Brooksie, I live in the city with the largest mall in North America and, other than a L'Occitane, there are no traditional shaving supplies to be found there at all.

On a side note I did find some razors/supplies in a local shop recently, but indeed the markup was unbelieveable. Such is life for B&M stores in Canada

That's not true Ryan...there's a Crabtree & Evelyn there as well...lol. But ya, as far as finding much for shaving stuff, unless you shop on line you're pretty much outta luck.

Dont be too hard on those stores. Remember, they are likely buying the items from the same places YOU do, which means they need to up the price by 30-100 percent to make it worth thier while to carry it.

Its not like the old days when you could just order a box with 24 assorted razors or soaps at a wholesale price and then sell them retail to the people.

This brings back memories. My mother use to run a store in a little town that was a bedroom community to 2 bigger towns 20 miles away. It was dying and for all practical purposes is dead now. [Brick and mortar stores V.S. internet now? mmm???]
It had it's time and place but that is in the past. Her cost for gasoline delivered was the same price that you could get it at the pump where most in town worked. They would say that they didn't want to support her at very little mark up because they could get it cheaper. Until they needed 1/2 gallon for their lawn mower or called at 1:15 am from the bar and forgot to get fuel in the big town town and needed a gallon to to get to work in the morning. She rented the apartment above and we lived 3 miles from town and they didn't understand why she said no.

To this day I don't take a bag from a store unless i need it. I am not trying to save the world but understand the cost. A little at a time but it adds up.

OH, I get it guys and I'm the first guy to support small business when reasonable. To this day I don't shop at walmart or the other bigbox stores unless in an absolute bind and don't have a choice.

I don't know who to feel sorrier for in this situation? A shop that is trying to make a buck or a consumer getting nailed because they didn't do their research and end up spending more of their hard earned money than they have to.

I really wanted to try that Dovo shave cream but seriously.... way too expensive!

Yea, everything has it's day. Just heard an article on the news that even big box stores are having trouble competing with net sellers. For a retailer in a mall the costs per square foot to rent space is very high and that is just one thing that adds to the retail price. You had better have super knowledge and service to even stand a chance to make it.

Think that's crazy... I'm seeing rusty razors with 1/4 in chips out of the blade selling for 60-80 bucks in antique stores. Who's buying these things and why?

Euclid, have you seen the trash people are buying on ebay lately? I could unload my rusty broken bits and turn a profit it seems.

    The world has gone mad!
