Am I Missing Something Here ?
Please excuse my ignorance, but are there really straight razors worth USD$800.00 ?
It looks really nice but I couldn't afford this in a month of Sundays and even if I could, I wouldn't.
What is so special about this particular razor ?

Thanked: 1072Markets do fluctuate, and I haven't been keeping track of what big Wade & Butcher's have been selling for lately, but I have seen them go for that much.
The big W&B choppers are great shavers, and, are very popular.
Thats what sets the price, the demand.

Thanked: 2591I personally do not get the WB price hike, they are not rare as we see a lot of them on eBay.
I have seen some very rare Japanese straights sell for $1000 +Stefan

I agree with Grant and Mainaman. The big W&B razors are highly sought after and bring pretty good money.

Thanked: 3225It is whatever the market will bear, like the others have said. Interest and demand seem to be moving up too at present. The proof of the pudding is when it actually sells at the BIN price. Wait and see.

I believe in patience. Basically, if it were NOS I might consider it but I rather get some mileage for my dollar. If you search out some individual makers in the states you will find some that are that high and higher. But these are one of a kind, hand made, new. Buying is at your own discretion. It is worth what you are willing to pay.
Shaving with facial hair is like a golfcourse. It's a challenge of rough and fairways. You are the skilled greenskeeper of your face?

It must be the trademarked "True Honing" process that may be contributing to the price. (I wish there was a special font for sarcasm) I guess True Honing is probably better than False Honing.

If you look at the prices of the other razors that he's selling they really aren't that out of line for a shave real razor. He does have a good selection.

Considering the other items they have up, I'd say this is a shot in the dark. Put it on your watch list and wait. I've been watching a Bartmann that somebody wants 500 clams for, and it's already rotated halfway through a 2nd 30-day auction. Buyers send the loudest message by NOT buying. There are a lot of "false collector" markets these days. Anytime I hear the term, "serious collector", I think "somebody willing to pay too much", and so do a lot of these ebay sellers, apparently.
At the end of the day, that seller doesn't need to care if these razors go for that much. All he needs is the ONE person who is willing to pony up the ching, for whatever reason.

Agreed. Any seller can ask whatever he wants, but until someone actually buys it, it is meaningless. Now if it is an auction that goes that high, that is a better indication of value, but then value is only what 2+ people decided they'd like to pay for it, plus the winning big increment. Doesn't mean that it would go for that much again. I bought a WB celebrated FBU for $100 in an ebay auction, cleaned it up minimally and decided I didn't want that much invested in a common razor and sold it on ebay for almost $300.
