They're both pretty comparable IMO. They will both hone up and shave fine. The second might take a little longer to hone because of the chips. As far as better, that's all down to personal preference. Structurally I'd say they're pretty much even.

Thanked: 0Thank you for the reply. The second razor seems to have the stamp on the tang much clearer. You can see the cross, the GB, and the anchor. The first one is vary faint. Does that matter as far as value?

As you can see from the ebay auctions of GBs alone, value is highly subjective. Maybe some people like a more defined stamp, and will pay more for a particular razor, but who knows. You can only hope those people aren't bidding on the razor you want.
(obligatory comment about not discussing value on the forums as well)

Thanked: 0Thanks for the advise. I greatly appreciate it. I will see which one goes my way. Also, did not know about forum protocol as far as value. Will keep in mind for the future. Thanks again.

What is so special about GB beside price and size?

This must be the largest I've seen yet. Mine is 19/16 and that is already quite a size to handle on your face.
I can't imagine this being comfortable anymore. Curious where the bidding will end.
As for the question which of the two discussed GB's is the better one, I'd say it's up to personal preference. They're both nearly the same size. After the chip on that first one is removed, they'll be even closer. The tang stamp on the one with the chip is faint and you can only see the iron cross above the GB logo very, very faint. That razor will need some work, the other seems ready to go. The second one has quite some hone wear and then it's down to aesthetics. So there's something to say for both of them.
In another thread the suggestion was made that the GB's are the next craze. We had the Dubl Ducks, the Filarmonicas, the Wade and Butcher FBU's and perhaps now the GB's. I'd welcome that. It would mean that more of these blades will find their way to the forum and the Bay. Choose wisely and don't get carried away in those last heart-pounding seconds... :-)

I have a GB Anchor up for auction now on Ebay. It has a smile and is 1 & 5/16ths at it's widest spot.
