Thanked: 4Ivo, which sniper were you using that failed you? I've sniped all my purchases except a couple of small BIN items. Anyone who doesn't use a sniper is nuts, IMHO.

Thanked: 9Wayne,
this particular time I was using vrane. Haven't bought many items on BIN - but some of my best razors came this way.
Cheers

first ever: snipe didn't go through
Being mainly a seller I was going to write a thread disagreeing with bid sniping ( well I did draught it ) but when I looked on the internet for information to support my argument I didn’t really find any !
So now my opinion has changed somewhat.
Most of the info came from this guy
http://cgi3.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...id=supersniper
and the rest from other sources.
In the end there is not much difference between waiting as close to the end as you dare before making your bid manually, having a clock on your desktop synchronised to ebay time and bidding in the last seconds or just letting a program do it!
So any other thoughts????

Tony: Sniping is just a healthy auction policy as it helps the buyer avoid temptation. If I know what I am willing to pay for an item and I do it in the last seconds (whether it's manually or by using a sniping program), I am guaranteed to maintain my discipline and not pay more than I thought the item was worth just b/c I had to beat out another guy.

Thanked: 346If everybody sniped then the results would be identical to a sealed-bid auction. I like it because I can change my mind (higher/lower, bid/retract) without crossing ebay, and it reduces my exposure to shilling, and early bids just encourage competition (good for sellers but bad for buyers).
Plus there are some other nice features provided by some of the sniping services like group bids, where you put snipes on X equivalent items, and the sniping service will snipe each item in the group in turn until you win one.

first ever: snipe didn't go through
Ebay has changed a lot since I started selling and as I saw things happen I tried to use the information to my selling advantage!
I think bid snipe programs defianately give the user an advantage over normal bidders & sellers.
I suppose Its just evolution of the system.

But sniping has been around since e-bay's inception. Sniping software allows you to snipe without being present but that's a very small change IMO.
