But as it sits at the moment, whenever I read anything about coticules as a final finisher I just think of that old fairy tale: The Emperor's New Clothes.

    I do not think you are missing anything, I agree too, coticules =prepolishers for me, I like to use mine for bevel setting on kamisori.
    I will believe the Salm Rock hype when someone sends me one to try it to see for myself.

    At that price, professional honing.... twice a year for OMG I should live that long.

    With modern man made hones for a lot less this is almost silly. This cost
    covers a full stack of top of the line Shapton GlassHones and they are the expensive ones
    out there...

    The picture was astounding... it looked three times bigger than it was.

    May the new owner enjoy....

    Yeah, I didn't even notice the thing is 6"x1.5". What a trip ! Look at the bid history and it is the usual seller's dream. Two individuals dueling it out for the obscure object of desire they can't live without. Below is one of the photos from the listing;

    My blue yellow combo sold for 185 on the bay.

    I'd like to think whatever the selling price ended up being was more a result of the need for exclusivity, than the belief that the stone is that much more incredible than others. As Jimmy said, he had one. I know of three other guys who had or have one. So there's 4 people across 3 forums? The rarity is what I'm getting at. JMHO.

    I have no doubt there's probably a lot of truth in what you say. And if that is what this buyer wanted then they certainly not only got it, but also went a good way to ensuring they stay rare!! At that sort of price I doubt many out there could afford one, let alone want one

    I hope that it doesn't need lapping. If it does then that little salamander on top of the stone is history.

    i was out at $708.99

    just a reminder that something is only worth what someone is willing to pay ...

    i have 3 coticules coming this week and got the bug bite !!! but it would have to be a huge bug bite to count out that coin !! but then again if i had that kinda play $ id buy a lot of things that most would think is over priced ..lol

    I quite like a coticle edge but that price is lunacy.
