Thanked: 118What makes you think the tip was reground? You say "it's rather obvious" but I don't see it.
Comparing to pixelfixed's photo the barber's notch looks the same, and the overall profile looks the same. Maybe in the first pic on the Ebay listing there is a weird artifact right at the point of the razor. It's a fairly crappy photo (reason enough not to pay inflated prices for the razor) but I could maybe say the point looks a bit rounder than pixelfixed's but it's difficult to say because we are looking at them from different angles. The fifth pic on Ebay the tip looks fine to me. Maybe when it was last honed the tip got rounded a bit?
Please let me know what you see that I don't, thanks!

Thanked: 2027I don't think that blade has been re-ground,It may be a tad more muted than mine (maybe) hard to tell.
That could be just from honing.

Does it look bigger than it really is because it's been shortened? I've got a 9/8 Wade and Butcher on ebay at the moment but the Rogers looks to be quite a lot bigger but is listed as 8/8.

Thanked: 2027I think the seller is using 8/8 as a generic term,if it is true to form it was a 10/8 blade when made, mine is.

Thanked: 118As pixelfixed said, the seller is using "8/8" as a general term, perhaps they think it is a rating system like "10 out of 10". In the description the seller says "The blade is in excellent condition and measures 1-1/4" at widest point" so it seems the razor is a 10/8 inch width blade.

Well at an hour to go it was languishing at $580. It finished at $811 and change. Last bid placed with 6 seconds to go. I wonder what it would have brought with original scales ? Let's hope the buyer dresses it up with horn appropriate to its age and history rather than flashy acrylic. For posterity here is a pic of the razor stolen from the listing.

Thanked: 118Yep, I was watching it, wondering if it would top the $655 that the last one drew, when I saw it go to $676 with 3mins left, then $710 with 2mins left, and the final big jump to $812 right at closing. It looked like a pretty mint blade, I too hope some gets it rescaled in the classic Sheffield chopper style of black horn/bullseye washers/lead wedge.

I found it interesting that it was described as 'early', and yet it was stamped 'England' meaning that it was made after 1891. While that would still make it an old blade, there have been recent ones on Ebay that were clearly older and "earlier".
