Thanked: 0Found a GB Straight Razor w/anchor mark George Brittain? Help please.
Hello all. Thank you for taking the time to read this post. I am doing some research before I sell this razor and hope you guys can help me. I work at a antique shop in my town here of Gainesville, TX. A lady walked in one day and had this razor as well as some other items for sale and I bought the items from her. This razor was in the mix. It is marked GB with a anchor and you can just barely see the iron cross. It's in awesome condition. I have taken some pics in hopes I might gain some more info on it, or possibly a year of manufacture. I am assuming early 1800s. Also, it has been kept in a box and after examining the box, it doesn't go with the razor. It actually has Joseph Elliott on it, but its very hard to make out. Can anyone help me out here as to how old mine is, what the handle might be made of, does it look like it has been redone? It measures 6 3/4 inches when closed. The blade width is about 7/8 inches wide. Also on the handle, there is what looks like an inital or number scratched in it? This is not my usual field of antiques, so I am out of my element with this. Thanks. Pam

the scales (handles) appear to be horn that was probably originally dyed black and is now faded. the "bulls-eye washers" and pins look original. bug bites on the edges of the scales are quite common and are a result of improper storage sometime in the last 150 years or so of its life. the Maltese cross, "GB" and anchor most likely means it made by "Britain, Wilkinson & Brownell" and the shape of the blade puts it in the 1850-1861(when they stopped using the logo) timeframe... as for valuation look on 'bay for completed sales is your best bet, very wide blades or blades in good shape like yours command better prices.
why did I bother it is already list on the bay..... grBe just and fear not.

Thanked: 0Sorry guys. I guess I got a little impatient. I'm still trying to figure out this site. I kept going to my email and never saw any messages so I went ahead and listed it. I think I might not have something set right as to when I can see messages. I appreciate the help. You all really know your stuff. Again, I wasn't meaning to be rude, just think I am a little lost on here. Pam
