Winter shaving.....
As a fairly green guy as far as wet shaving myself is concerned....this is my first winter in the wet shaving process, and I'm just wondering what a good combination for the harshness of a salt lake city winter would be....do I still use alum block or witch Hazel??? Or maybe just a nice balm or lotion???? Is a soap or cream better served in the winter??? Any and all advice is well appreciated..

You just set up a multi-day run through to find the solution to your question. Chart it and you will probably finds there is no definitive answer because no two days are alike vis a vis temp of the day, humidity level in your bathroom, soap and razor of the day and your mood of the moment. Good luck and post your answers cause we are all curious about everything on this forum.

Thanked: 1195I use alum year round without any issues.
A lot of guys switch to aftershave balms exclusively during the winter months; I still rotate between balms and splashes though. I do find that the Body Shop's Face Protector works great in between shaves.

I usually switch my scents up rather then the type of product as I find soaps and creams equally well suited for winter time shaving. Momma bear has Some nice winter time scents, there's northwoods camp and various other Christmas / holiday inspired scents... I think she even offers Siberian spruce EO soap which has got to be as winter as it gets.... I too use splashes through out winter as I use alum as well- I will confess that using a lotion after all is Sao and done isn't a bad idea though- which is something I typically omit in the summer months..
All in all change of seasons for me means giving the lemon, lime, bay rum, menthol, kelp etc etc soaps a rest and bring in te warmer sandelwood, opus X, Musk, tabac type scents.......... Making Old Razors Shine N' Shave, Once Again.
