Thanked: 25/8 vs 6/8
Hello...
I'm still learning how to hone my razors.....
Tired of trying I bought one shave ready from alt...55 (it is 5/8)
I bought this one to have something to compare my honing vs something shave ready....
Last night I honed my DOVO (it is 6/8), and early this morning I tested both of them....
I couldn't shave with the shave ready from alt....55, it hurt me a lot.....in the other side the DOVO was just below nice...
I don't know if I have my DOVO sharper than the other one, or just matter of size....5/8 vs 6/8
any advice?

Victor, it looks like you did a better honing job than Altima. He does lots of razors and I guess from time to time they slip through the cracks. Finish your DOVO and re-do the one from Altima.

I agree, keep trying you'll get there. I honed a solige 5/8 and finally got it shave ready. I never did get it to pass the HHT, but it shaves really good, But I did get it to pass the thumb test.

Size has nothing to do with how the edge performs in the shave. Good job on the Dovo.

The size difference in the blades should not matter in this case. I concur with the recommendations already made to finish up the 6/8, then get the 5/8 up to your standard.

Thanked: 2Thanks a lot for your feedback....
I'm planning to finish the DOVO with 5 strokes in the 8k (and then the strop) before each shaving.....to finish it....
Any other recomendation?

Thanked: 9Actually, I think I prefer to hone and strop 6/8 vs 5/8. Same for shaving... The wider blade (6/8) seems more stable on the hone and it's easier to keep flat
This may apply only to me though, and might be a result of the fact that most of my razors are 6/8 so I'm more used to them
Of course, sharpness of the edge is not inferior on the 5/8s
Cheers
