vintagestraightrazor.com????
I was given a theirs Issard blades grim for my birthday from Vintagestraightrazor.com. I have shaved with it once and it is already dull. I am a beginner. I did not know where my present was coming from. Now that I have done my research I'm starting to think this website is full of it. Is this the case? can someone help?

Thanked: 13249It probably just needs a proper honing, if it is the TI brand it is a solid razor...
Pick somebody and get it done
Member Services - Straight Razor Place Classifieds
Then learn to do it yourself after you get comfortable shaving with it...Honing will start a whole other adventure

What Glen said. fortunately you got a TI so it is a real razor not a razor shaped object so a good honing will should have it in great form in no time. with a location in your profile it would be easier to direct you better.
sorry that you will miss a Christmas straight shave, but your family/friends could have done much worse.
enjoy,

I got a TI from them a while back and it was also not honed well, if at all. I honed it up and it is now a great shaver. Send it out for a honing and it will be a great razor.

Unless you buy from Straight razor design, no razor really comes shave ready. Ensure you find someone you trust to hone your razors. Best advice I can give.
I am very appreciative of all the knowledge and sharing each and everyone has provided me with. Look forward to future endeavors with many of you.

Well that's not fair, or as I understand it true. I believe that there are a few vendors who sell new shave ready razors, I can't put my finger on who they are, as I have not used them but there are a few threads that mention a few other vendors, and I believe that vendors who advertise here sell shave ready.
Sorry gonzo not trying to jump on you, I just don't think your statement is correct from what i have read elsewhere.Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

I know it is a tough statement. Most razors say they are shave ready, but most seem more like user friendly but not necessarily shave ready. Most Razors take some time to get used to. Care, strop, prep, shaving etc. are all very important. I know that finding the honing service that works best for an individual. The good news about SRD, they will let you send razor back for another honing also. This allows you the user to use it and maybe try to maintain some, like stropping and when it stops producing a quality shave send it back. I am not bashing all vendors or anything like that. Just trying to suggest a great place to get started, and then to also find a great honing tradesman.

I've gone with Larry from Whipped Dog. He is very friendly and offers a great service. I suggest him to everyone. And Lynn of course.
