The Illinois #206 strop (mentioned by DPM1267 above) is my only strop, and I've used it since 2006. I condition it once or twice a year with conditioning paste or lather, and it's still supple and has a decent "draw". As a beginner, I nicked the edges a good bit; once I stopped doing that, I sanded those spots lightly and applied the conditioning paste to where I'd sanded, and now you'd never know.
Keep your pivot dry!
