Doesn't matter where you got your razor if it isn't stropped properly. (Thanks for supporting SRD though)
The Adam's Apple is the anti-crown on our head. If the crown proper (the part where all your hair swirls) was the North Pole, the Adam's Apple would be the South Pole. It's a swirl. Everybody has one. They are all different kinda.
I make north and south passes on the neck. that's it, it covers a bit of WTG/XTG/ATG without any extra thought. Anything more can cause problems and close enough works, i'll shave again real soon.
You need maximum sharpness and minimum pressure and good stretching. Although "chin-up" seems like a good stretch, a lateral tug can be good there too.
Make sure that blade is properly stropped and sharp, try to remove the lather without even feeling pressure.
I have found, 1.5 years into it (touch keeps developing), that I can shave over and around pimples/bumps with a properly sharp straight easier than ever before.
Hang in there and go light, be sharp.Last edited by WadePatton; 02-04-2014 at 12:22 AM.

-low razor angle, keep spine close to skin,
-wet lather, keeps hair easy to cut and helps with cushion and glide, hot or room temp. Works for me,
-shave ready razor, with SRD it should be OK,
-no skin pressure, think of brushing hair off a very fragile object, pressure causes nicks and irritation,
-skin stretching raises hairs and flattens the skin,
-try stroke from a different direction on difficult spots rather than the same direction over and over again.
-let your skin heal then try again,
-keep it fun, build skill on spots that work, finish with DE or usual razor. Gradully expand onto difficult spots as proficiency develops.

I will second the 2 pass on the neck. I do a N-S and then a S-Non next pass. My hair on my neck literally grows W to E so a true WTG and ATG pass is very difficult. I do end up ding some touch up buffing on a few spots, but it is a continuous learning curve.
The older I get the more I realize how little I actually know.

Try using product with salt.

Can you explain this? I imagine salt is going to hurt only more.
As for going E-W in the neck, I think you should stay away from that. I've found it to be nearly impossible and so much more difficult than simple N-S, that I ended up with more cuts just trying to keep the blade in the right position.
My neck hair grows sideways as well and I use a slightly scything/slicing pass, I can barely feel the resistance. That was way different a year ago, I'd always get some irritation on the left side of my neck.I want a lather whip

Thanked: 0Just looks like you shaved the head off of neck pimples that you didn't know was there.
OR, your hair might grow in a different direction in those spots. I've got a few patches of hair on my neck that grow opposite to the rest.
Ease up on the pressure, or maybe use a DE on your neck until you figure it out.

I say you should try stretching the neck area a different way. NO CHIN UP, but rather holding your chin normally and pull the skin DOWN - kind of stretching. I can't explain why but for me there is a huge difference between "making faces" - kind of stretching and "simply pulling the limp skin with the fingers" - kind of stretching.
