Lookin for gear
I just took a new job that has a clean shave policy. I would like to make shaving more enjoyable. I am the grandson of a WW2 navy barber (he passed about 34 years ago). I have his old razors and some other trinkits. The razors are in good condition all are 60+ years old. I am looking at "starter sets" at classicshaving.com I would like to have a new razor to start with and then start getting the old ones out and making them users. I have looked at the white Dovo/Rooney set. I also looked at the Classic Sharpening Set. This combo is a little pricey but if you price it out seperately it looks like a better deal and I want a badger brush to replace my boar. Does anybody have any better ideas or deals to get me into the game. After lurking here a bit I wonder about the Tony Miller strop. Are the Illinois from classicshaving good? The set also comes with Lynns DVD a must as near as I can tell.

You can also get one of Tony's sets. However, if you already have your gramps' gear, you could probably dig up a strop and re-condition it. I don't see why you'd need a new razor. You could always send one of the ones you already have to Lynn or JC for cleanup and honing and it will come back with an edge you should aim at for your honing.

I agree in general but he can still get a razor - because what if he's uncomfortable with the grip and drops his Grandfather's (newly honed by Lynn) Wonderedge? And really, even if it's just a ... (insert name here) - it was his Grandfather's razor!
Another razor will let him get used to it and may be safer for the other razors... Same goes for the strop - he'll probably nick it (no disrespect or anything meant - it just happens way too often)
Yes, after my last shave I may be a bit paranoid
Cheers
Ivo

I agree get a Tony Miller set. Everything you will need. Tony is also very helpful and knowledgable.
