Thanked: 43Aarg!!!
Those self inflicted dings in the edge cause an imediate and incredibly humbling feeling.
While I have been spared an incident while shaving I recently examined an edge after stropping and somehow managed to whack it against the microscope table.
I was able to correct the damage to the blade but the damage done to my feelings remain.
My personal proceedure to protect the blade edge while shaving.....
First, I never lay the razor down without closing it.
Secondly, when I wash of the whiskery lather from the blade I put the blade spine down, just below the water, and use short fast swishing motion to loosen and partially wash away the lather. Then I wipe the edge between my wet thumb pad and forefinger.
So far I have avoided trouble with this procedure but I know that need to be constantly vigilant..... or else.... Aarg!!!

I have the same balsa strop from whippeddog and it is awesome as is Larry. It is .3 micron on the green side and .09 (Larry calls it .1 though) micron on the red. Chromium oxide and iron oxide. That's what the specks are from the company he gets his pigments from. Larry recommends IIRC around 15 laps on green and 20 on red. That's what I do and it works wonders at bringing an edge around.
What a curse be a dull razor; what a prideful comfort a sharp one

A bid ditto, my brother. I was so uncomfortable wet rinsing in the sink because the clearance is limited, that I quite that idea all together and moved to using a large wet sponge to simply wipe the lather off. Far safer, and way I keep it situated, provides a good area for me to put my razor down and limit the sink fall worry.
I 2nd Steel's recommendation of Larry at whipped dog.
