A Great Birthday Present!
Today, I turned sixty-eight. I started SR shaving early in Jan of this year, and celebrated my birthday with my first close and comfortable shave that didn't require any styptic pencil "touch-ups". Yippee!
In an hour, I'll be having tea/coffee with guys my age. Tonight, I'll be conducting a Lenten mid-week Vespers service. After that, lentil soup and adult beverages with my wonderful wife. We have a good and gracious God. This is a lot better than living in the Ashau Valley for three months. A great birthday present!

Thanked: 40Happy Birthday, Congratulations on your first bloodless shave. More will follow. Even though it took a long time till you found the correct way to shave, you will find it was worth the wait. You're never to old to learn something new.

Jim,
Congrats from another 46'er. I was a little farther North (67-68). The closest I got to the A'Shau Valley was Khe Sanh.
Congratulations on the shave, that wonderful wife, and hope you have a great evening.
Happy Birthday!!!
Best Regards,

All expense paid vacation in Southeast Asia
Hi Howard. I was also at Khe Sanh around Feb '68 to help lift the siege during Tet. I was with the 1st Cav, and my base camp was LZ Jane, a stone's throw from Evans, in Quang Tri provence. As Dickens said, "Best of times, worst of times."
I'm so glad you made it back. And thank you so much for your service. Things are so much better for me since the VA gave me some help with hearing aids (from the incoming at Khe Sanh) and the PTSD.
I'm retiring in about forty-one days, from my clergy profession, and I'm really looking forward to it. I don't know what month in '46 you were born, but Happy Birthday anyway.
Hope to hear more from you, buddy. Till then, God bless.

Thanx Formel1. One problem, though. I think my memory is getting worse, and also, I think my memory is getting worse.

Hey Jim,
Sorry for the slow response, it's been a little hectic the last few days.
I was with 11th Engr. Bat., 3rd Marine Division. Our base camp was Dong Ha, but we were all over Quang Tri Province. Tet was, well, as you quoted from Dickens.
A lot of the timelines, for me, are kind of muddled. I was at Dong Ha, Cam Lo, Khe Sanh, and Hue during Tet. Actually rode as a door gunner on a 1st Air Cav chopper going to Hue, providing air cover to a Marine relief convoy. Everybody was short handed so we went where needed.
Pretty much lost a lot of hearing in that period too. And still deal with, as you, PTSD. I'm glad we both got back, and you know your service was welcomed and appreciated by me and especially the Marines stuck in Khe Sanh!!
If I can help with anything in the straight razor realm, don't hesitate to PM me. If I can't help or answer, I'll know someone that can.
Best Regards, and God Bless you and your family!!
Howard
