Looks like it might work. I think the only problem are those metal clips. You might want to break those off. I don't put a blade under those clips on the microscope I have that uses those. But I prefer a hand held.
I use this:

Thanked: 1what do you think of this image.
enough detail to be usefull?

That's enough detail, I think. I started off with a 30x. I'm using a 60x now (the Radio Shack one), but the 30x got the job done, too.

Thanked: 1A CCD camera with 50mm lens and 100mm of extenders super glued to a couple of bits of aluminum bar stock with a micro xy adjuster to focus.
hooked up to the pc via an analogue video capture card and used the software to take a snapshot I'll post a pic of the setup later.
I have video of the whole blade edge but is too big to post.
(maybe i'll youtube it)
I,m hoping that the guys on here will be able to help with honing difficulties by seeing whats happening to the blade.

You don't need an electron microscope for this kind of work. As long as you can see the edge pretty clearly your in business. Your really just looking for chips and irregularities in the edge. If you have a really quality scope 30x is great if not 60-100x will make up for the lack of resolution. I wouldn't pay alot of money for this kind of thing.
