    A lot of us start with a Whipped Dog razor, I know you want a new one but he is also good for the sundry stuff required.

    Sounds like you should get in touch with someone who is local and prepared to show you their collection, that way you can decide grind, weight and size.
    A good lather is half the shave.

    $70 goes somewhere beyond "A little bit more" but the gist of your suggestion is fair.

    I'd be going vintage in the same situation - but horse for course and all that.
