Thanked: 0Some razors like constancy and old friendships. They watch the slow turn to grey, the wrinkles crease corners of familiar eyes. Get passed on to sons. Nessmuck's Straight was the other kind. Restless. The sort that kicks around flea-markets, goes missing with lost airline luggage.
She hung around my place once. I think she liked it here, it reminded her of the old days. The way I shaved outside, the little round mirror on a nail in the fence post. Horses grazing or at the hitching rail. She liked the way saddles and harness leather smelled like a good strop. And there was other good steel for company. The scythe from Hungary, peened sharp. The hand-forged swedish axe. My good bush knife.
She got twitchy before long. I didn't trust my hand on the hone yet, so I got her sharpened. Then sent her off to someone on that Forum. She would have left anyway. Besides, that's what paying it forward is all about.
I watched her kick around there for years after. Sometimes people even posted her picture. I always felt a bit wistful, like when you see an old lover from a distance, hanging on someone else's arm.
Then one year she didn't come back. I guess it didn't surprise anyone much. But I think about her some, and I hope someone is treating her right. And I hope for his sake he doesn't get too attached. Because she is that kind...
(ps i know, i'm canadian, but dad's down on the border and can pick up shipped parcels at the little store across the line...:-)Last edited by murray; 07-03-2014 at 04:54 AM.

Thanked: 1Hello, this is my official first post. Keeping it simple. I've been reading posts since last November. Joined the forum in January and ordered my first shavette. Been using it since then with good results. Practicing for when I get my 1st straight razor for Christmas 2014 (if I'm lucky. ). This would be a great opportunity before then. Thanks.

Thanked: 1You were looking for someone with fewer than 10 posts. Well, this is my first. I've been shaving with a DE for about 7 months. I've always been curious about straights and I believe I'm ready. What better way to get started than with a razor prepared for shaving by a veteran shaver.
Since today is Independence Day, it seems to be the perfect time to learn to shave like our forefathers.
Whether or not I'm selected, thanks for a great PIF.

I have no clue how many posts I have, but I think it's under 10. Waiting on my new razor (HOPEFULLY) today from SRD. I actually have dreams now about shaving as I'm learning. I spend hours rubbing my face after shaving just admiring how smooth it is!!

Thanked: 1I just had my first near complete straight razor shave last night and I've come to SRP to step up my game! I've been DE Shaving for about the last 9 months and have the lather and prep down, but now is the time to really transition. I have my grandfathers Wade & Butcher FBU which I sent out to honed and and became closer to a 7/8-6/8, but I think it too big to start on... I'm very motivated to become a solid member of this forum and excited to truely start my journey into traditional straight razor shaving! I really hope you pick me! Thanks and all my best.

Drum roll please....I had to lean on 3 SRP shaving brothers to help with this difficult task of picking a winner out of all these excellent posts. I took one name from each of the 3 judges and put their names in a hat.....and the Winnah is...LifesShort !!! I would like to thank you all for playing ...and keep at it...if it was easy, everyone would shave with a straight !!!
