Thanked: 1Newbie Won Razor On eBay For $10 ????
I won my first Str8 Razor on eBay, mainly because it was cheap. I set a limit of $10.00 and this is the only one I won for that price. $10 + $6.00 postage sounded ok. It seemed like a reasonable price for an interesting looking STR8 razor that I can learn to hone and strop. The stainless part might be a problem, but we'll see...comments, and advice please...
Did I get a diamond or a dog?
Does anyone know anything about this particular type of razor... any tips on how to prep the razor for honing? etc....

You can use the "blade" to spread warm (and only warm) butter with and the scales look nice so you can mount them on a real blade. Try to find a good vintage piece with busted scales.

Boy they really know how to make it look and sound like something good... crooks...CAVEAT EMPTOR!
Pakistani or Chinese?????
Oh well I've leaned an important lesson... check EVERYTHING out first...
Oh well I guess I got a $16.00 set of scales...
Isn't the blade even worth practicing honeing and stropping on?Last edited by tgparker; 03-24-2007 at 11:25 PM.

Actually $16 isn't too bad for a nice set of scales lol. You can use it to practice your stropping, but there's no point in working on your honing as it will never take a proper shaving edge. It's Pakistani. The Chinese actually made some decent straights in the past but I'm not sure that they're making any good ones now.

I almost bought the same one (except the one I was looking at was branded as a 'Kriegar') off Amazon just 'cause I liked the handle (scales?), until I noticed it was listed in the 'Outdoors' section (more pocketknife, less razor). I was planning on swapping the blade, but opted not too after I read some stories about bad alignment causing damage/chipping on the edge.
But, that was all before I found this place...I might rethink it later now that I know I can find people who have done this stuff before.

Thanked: 1I'm wondering, if I can get the blade hardened properly......
I dimly recall that there was a process whereby one could get stainless steel blade case hardened somewhere.
Anyway, live and learn, maybe I'll put it back up on eBaY and see if I can unload it...as a "butter knife" or a "fruit/veggie peeler"..
Or maybe as some guys have suggested, $16.00 bucks is pretty reasonable for a set of scales....
BTW, I did bid on three more razors which seemed to be more appropriate...
BTW where is "THE LIST" of legit eBay Razor sllers?
All the best,
Tony

Thanked: 0Maybe you can find an old belt and practice your stropping with it, but I would keep the scales for sure
