i would add to get crox spray. this way you can hold off on the free honing for when you really need it.

i started with this razor and i hurt the edge pretty fast. i just used the crox to get it back to shave ready. haven't used the certificate yet.

With the spray, wouldn't I need another strop too?

You would need another strop, possibly one with a fabric side to it.

You can paste the inside of the linen/webbing/felt with crayon/paste/spray. Check out Lynn Abrams video on refreshing a razor

Good call on that purchase. Dovos are alright razors; I have one and it's a decent blade. Thing is..Ralf Aust is (in my opinion) a considerably better razor, better edge, better finish, better feel.

Also a solid choice on the 3" strop. With a strop that width you won't have to worry about the whole X-stroke thing if you don't want to. Often you will hear that you should really learn how to properly do the X-stroke..yeah well..it's kind of like knowing how to drive with a stick shift. I learned on a manual 3 speed on the column transmission. Haven't owned a vehicle with manual transmission in MANY years. And, there isn't anything stopping you from incorporating that move if you are so inclined.

    Well done..............

Honestly, I figure the 2" strops are a bit cheaper, so, like honing, I'm sure I'll work on developing an X-pattern eventually. BUT, much like honing, I figure the simpler I make it in the beginning, the easier. Let's add one thing at a time. As important as stropping is to a good shave, I figured a liner path on the strop would be much easier than the x-pattern. And looking forward to giving this a shot!
