Thanked: 2I only shave at night unless there is a function that day. I prefer to relax after a long day and it give me time to unwind. A hot towel, a good slow shave and then a hot shower. I know showering first is recommended, but I shave my head too and there is stubble I prefer not to take to bed with me. I put on some classical music and take about 45 minute to an hour to complete my ritual.
Good tip and well taken here.

Same Here, I only shave in the evening so I can take my time. I shaved one time in the morning on a weekend, and although I got the job done without a nick, it still was not comfortable. I'm not a morning person what so ever, ... and I still only shaving WTG.

Thanked: 19Also, a newbie is more likely to cut himself, and depending on how bad it is, I would prefer not having to go right into work with the fresh wound. Having the night for it to settle, or for me to deal with it, is good.

When I started I did the straight at night and then in the morning shaved with a regular razor for clean up. That way I wasn't rushed and had a clean look for work. The shave gets faster and better with time.

Thanked: 45I am 2 months into non-safety shaving (shavette), only 2 weeks into a straight razor...and I will probably almost always shave at night. Though honestly at this point my shaves only take about 2x longer than with a cartridge (call shaving itself about 20 mins...I have facial hair) I still appreciate having non-rushed time. I feel at night I can concentrate more and give myself a better shave since mentally the clock isn't ticking in the background.
I also feel great crawling into bed clean and shaven versus somewhat disheveled like I did before full wet shaving.

Thanked: 5I finished my ninth SR shave this evening (BBS except my neck!). I did evening shaves the first three, but have been doing late morning SR shaves on weekends. I use vintage DEs on most weekday morninngs.
My beard is dark and grows fast, so I'll be scruffy around lunch tomorrow, with no work reasons to to be smooth. Hey, that's a good excuse to shave tomorrow evening, too!Last edited by Bentlink; 10-30-2014 at 11:57 PM.

Excellent thread.
I too prefer to shave in the evening. Then I also get to go to bed smelling great. SWMBO is keen on that.
It's also a great way to wind down.
Keep us posted with your progress!

I've been straight shaving for 9 or so months, got BBS everywhere except my neck unless I took a long time for a shave. Recently I bought a straight with a pronounced smile, and now get BBS on my neck quite easily and quickly... haven't attempted to hone the bastard yet though.
It's nice to be important, but more important to be nice

My very first Straight Razor shave was on a Sunday afternoon
I did all the normal newbie mistakes - lather was too dry, too much pressure, went for full face shave with a cheapie Pakistan razor I thought was sharp.
Razor burn was painful for sure as were the cuts.
Then I found SRP and started the journey to learn a lifetime skill.
With months of learning and patience the skills have become much better.
Perseverance is the key for anybody into straight razor shaving.
Every time I shave something else is learned.
Enjoy the process - it is definitely worth it.RickyB

Thanked: 0I also shave of an eve. More chances for cuts and nicks to heal before I present myself to the world. Also I'm more alert and awake of an evening with less going on, thus more attention is paid to the job. I have done the whole shower and shave ritual over a weekend, but was later in the morning.
Glad to see, I'm not alone in my reasoning.
