Default I use a bit different Grip...

I use an inverted grip like the one shown here. Seems and initially feels kinda wonky but, once the blade is against skin and your thumb feels that pressure, it is all intuitive from there and remarkably easy to control.

I have a Big 'Ol Goatee that goes down past my collarbones so I use a comb in non-razor hand to hold my beard up/away and then use the grip pictured from Center to Right in my right hand and from Center to Left in my left hand. I also do a standard pull with a normal grip but figured this to be the one to talk about as it is atypical... With one N->S Pull and one S->N Pull (.. both XTG for me..) I can get DFS easily using this grip for the S->N and it makes it really easy to sneak around along the jaw angle as well.

I just wanted to say I got a lot out of this thread. The reason is I have a beard and the only part of my face that I shave is the underside of my face! I gotta tell you (FYI awaiting my strop and honing to use my straight razor I've been using a Parker shavette) it's a bit of a humbling experience putting a razor blade to your throat.

Doesn't that extended scale poke you in the chest starting out headed North?

Here are a couple pics of the best I can do for a "horizontal" pass mid neck. This is what works best for me as the grain on my neck is from my left to right in that area

No. As I start the Pass I use my little finger to kinda wrap around the Scales so they end up tucked kinda into my palm/up against my wrist.

A lot of people actually have hair growth that switches direction halfway down their neck. (I know I do.) So take a close look and see if you actually are shaving WTG, you might be surprised to find out that you're shaving half of your neck ATG on the first pass. This might have already been said, but for your adams apple: Swallow and hold it. Your adams apple will flatten out. Stretch the skin, shave and let go. Voila.
