Another newbie and Tom Petty said it best...
...the waiiiiiting is the hardest part.
I'm sure like many before me, I'm a DE migrant from B&B and SMF, long time listener, first time caller. I've been lurking and reading the wealth of information here. I darken the doors of antique shops and such and see a lot of straight razors and
Obviously, the wait for my new razors and strops are killing me. En route is Tony Miller Heirloom strop, Dovo Bismarck (ordered from Vintage Blades shave ready) and three Wapienicas for the honing learning curve. I also ordered the Lynn Abrams DVD and the restoration CD from Billy's Blades.
A whole new level of rad is kicking in....
So .. uh. ..hey all!

Thanked: 0Congrats
Congratulations"
I do not have the patient for restoration, so I found ALTIM55 from E-Bay who will restore and sharpen reasonably.
The Wap... razors seem very good. I used a barber hone for 5 minutes and my Tony Miller paddle with the 1.0 micron and 0.5 micron then stroped (not side to side but purpendicular and it shaved VERY good. Don't sell those short!!! You may decide they are your best shavers.

Welcome Brian, from another recent convert (and Noob to "Wet Shaving" in general).
I've now shaved with my Dovo 1/2 dozen times and it gets better each time, as my skills for shaving and stropping increase.
Still haven't developed the Noogies for an ATG pass with the straight though!!! Still finish off with my Futur in a low setting.

Welcome Brian - that wait is tough, and especially so when you're down to only one necessary item remaining.
You'll like the results though.

Welcome Brian. I can see you are practicing your due diligence and expect we will hear some great tips for the learning curve from a fellow neophyte’s perspective.
Still haven't developed the Noogies for an ATG pass with the straight though!!!

Welcome Brian,
Believe me, the wait can be excrutiating, but it is worth it.
You will make some slips while shaving, we all have, some worse than
others So far I haven't cut myself too badly, no scars anyhow.
You have found a great place to learn with and from others.

Thanks everybody!
To take the edge off the wait, I'm going to run some shaving related errands at lunch: health food store for some lavender witch hazel, then to Lee Valley tools for a Norton 4K/8K, lapping glass and sandpaper.

That's interesting. I've noticed quite a few DE shavers first approach the straight with some trepidation. No offense meant, but it's curious -- does the "safety razor" inspire that much more confidence? Coming from an electric razor (and before that, a Gillette something-or-other), I just jumped in and knifed away with no fear.
Or perhaps it's too individual to generalize like this...
