    It's close, well lit and more or less in good focus. I'd be happy with that as well. Thanks for sharing the photos. I will for sure get this or similar when I am advancing in my hobby. I am still learning to shave & strop

    The capture software that came with this scope seems to me quite common. I have noticed this when watching youtube videos of different honers showing edges on screen, Alex Gilmour comes to mind, Although Alex uses a very professional looking optical microscope the actual image camera software looks to be the micro capture pro software that came with my unit.

    yes, try v4l in mac ports, there is more options in the software you can set than in the common boxed software that comes with it
    also any webcam software should work, it is seen as a webcam /camera device.

    Mine is mounted on a macro focusing rail in my workshop, scrap wood , a hinge and a two rare earth magnets countersunk from the back side hold the blade securely.

    Hey...I have a patent ! Hint about the blade holder, you can tighten up the hinge to prevent unwanted movement by peening both ends until you get the tension you need. You will need to experiment with different angles to get the proper light reflection from the bevel.
