If the edge is improving keep going back for a few more strokes on the paddle. Just remember to stick to 5 passes then test shave. This is a very conservative approach designed to help you become comforatable using the paddle, keep you from overhoning, and learn how the razor responds to the paddle. As everyone will agree here the shave is the best test because every face is different. If the razor is still pulling take it to the paddle. If it gets to the point where is is cutting the hairs well, but irritating your skin, or pulling mid-way through the shave; you may have overhoned it. Then there is still the learning curve of your technique. It will continue to improve giving you better shaves. Just have patience, go slow, and enjoy fiddling around with your razor and the paddle. That is pretty much how we all learned. Take care.

Don't forget for point 3) that you have only had 2-3 shaves with a straight?

I had the same problem exacerbated by very coarse beard hair. I can't remember who stressed it to me but your skin also needs a week or two to get used to the fact the straight takes away more dead skin than a Crap III or a DE so your skin is more irritated until it becomes more used to the effects.

For me I let the coarse hairs affect my shave and I was trying to shift them in the first pass and adding too much pressure, as my skin wasn't used to this treatment it got very upset and let me know all about it!

    Si.
