With and across the grain every day.

Well i do not shave quite everyday, i skip one or two a week, i work from home for the most part.
When shaving though a 3 pass deal in the norm. WTG, XTG and ATG this gives me a BBS face and usually neck as well. Sometimes if it is a great day the shave will result in a facegasm day. think faceterbation to the the next level, you cannot help rubbing your face.
if i only do two passes WTG and ATG... i wind up with a little shadow by 7pm.Be just and fear not.

I say if your going to do something you do it right. I shave every day and do two passes WTG and ATG. I get BBS everywhere except my neck. I have to compromise there.

Thanked: 0I usually shave with the grain, then across the grain on my face and against the grain on my neck. Usually I go BBS and will sometimes go against the grain on my face.
I find if the blade is really sharp this is more than adequate. If the blade is not that sharp my neck always has considerable stuble.

Thanked: 9Great discussion!
I don't have to shave, most of the time - so it's whenever I feel like it. If I have had more growth, the shave is much closer that if I shave every day. And I also enjoy shaving more hair
Getting BBS is never a goal with me but sometimes I get pretty close. I have sensitive skin and prefer comfort. Shaves are still better than electric and DE. I mix it up - WTG, XTG, ATG - because I actually have swirls in some areas. My face has angled areas that aren't very easy to shave, even with my current 30 lbs over training weight. Neck is certainly the trickiest part.
I also seem to have a bit of a shadow even after I shave and feel pretty smooth.
May be wrong, but I think BBS is just not for all people - curious to hear others' thoughts on this
Cheers

Thanked: 346I prefer comfort over closeness. You'll develop closeness with experience, and going for closeness before you're ready causes razor burn, and that makes it more difficult to learn.
Anyway, I got a very comfortable shave this morning, with no burn from the aftershave, and started getting stubble a few hours ago.

On the cheeks and jawline, WTG, XTG, ATG. On the neck WTG and ATG. On the chin and lower lip, WTG and a little bit of XTG and ATG. One the uppper lip WTG and XTG. That is pretty much everyday. On those "off" days when I just don't feel like it, I just do a WTG all over.

Thanked: 1WTG and XTG. I've decided going ATG gives me the weebie-geebies. I'm simply not as relaxed and thus the shave is not as comfortable when attempting ATG. I have found, at least for me, that shaving WTG and XTG using more than one direction provides a wonderfully close shave.

With and across except the neck. Actually had a very nice shave this morning, perhaps the best so far with a straight.
I'm not that experienced with a straight at this point for XTG on my neck, but it is getting close to the point where I will soon be able to do that also. I just have to use a different grip on the razor.
ATG is off in the future. If I really want BBS I do an ATG with a DE for now.

This is what keeps getting me in trouble. I *know* what the perfect shave feels like, so I keep going back and killing the rough spots as I go. This is despite being only a month or so into straight razor shaving, so I end up a li'l pink and tender.
Which I like for my steaks, but not my face....
