Thanked: 1587It's hard to say - the razor burn could definitely be too much pressure, or going over the same place too often. If the blade is popping hairs, I wouldn't be sharpening it any more for now. Maybe the best thing to do is try again with the blade as is, but perhaps leave the next shave for a day or so to let your skin recover a bit.

OK, no more pasted paddle now. Will try again either tomorrow or Sunday.
One of the things that I love about this experience is the journey and the incremental victories. Keeps you coming back for more.
I appreciate the help greatly.

Thanked: 1587No worries - everyone here loves to help. I'm just sorry I can't give you more definitive advice (I've just re-read my posts: "Could be overhoned, but then again maybe not. Could be too much pressure, but then again maybe not." ....)
Let us know how the next shave goes.

This is all trial & error. There are no victories without setbacks or "defeats". So the learning continues. I've been emailing with Lynn as well and he suggested that I go to the .5. I asked about the 1 micron and was told that I "could" do that and then again to the .5. Not sure what to do, certainly don't want to overhone. I just feel that the shave should be smoother.

Thanked: 1587Well, I'd trust Lynn's advice over mine anyday. He's the Lord of the straight! But I do know that with an excellent attitude like you have success is assured.

Many Thanks
James,
Thank you very much. Having gone back to the .5 right after this morning's shave I'm just going to shave with it and see. Lynn says that the shave should deteriorate towards the end. If still not smooth, I will go to the 1 micron and then .5. If it still doesn't work, I'll just send it to Lynn; he already has a Dovo I bought off eBay.

what is the proper way to pop arm hairs. I have been trying with a wapienica it does get arm hairs but only at the surface of the skin. I am trying to get the hair to cut at the top bu just grazing over the top of the hair. I am assuming this is the right way and that cutting the hair at the skin like shaving is not accurate, but am not sure.
HOw do you guys interpret a razors sharpness by doing this test?

Thanked: 9My arm hair bends a bit (and I inagine every other guy is in the same boat). For the test, I go ATG / AT bend. If it only cuts very close to skin level it's not sharp enough for me. If it can mow just the very tips, which are finer - then it may or may not shave well. But at least it's closer than otherwise

Progress
After the second 10 on the .5 chromium oxide the shave was better. Some stuttering (most likely due to a drying lather) and still some sticking around the chin area, but that may be just my poor technique. Asked Lynn again and he said to go back to the .5 which I did following the shave. So, now a total of 30 laps on the .5 and I haven't shaved since, but I will in the morning and post the progress. On another note, I also have another razor, should I use that to compare at this point or should I stay with the razor I've been using (9/16 W&B)?
As for popping arm hairs, I've also been using a ATG on my arm and if properly sharp, as I've read here, the hairs should literally pop off your skin. Don't quote me on that I'm still working through this whole journey.
