Thanked: 0Newbie question about a strop
Hi all!
My name is Mark and I have decided to try my hand at a straight razor since I have enjoyed DE wet shaving for about a year. I just got my new strop from straight razor designs, a premium IV, and upon opening the box I notice it has what appears to be a small hairline verticle cut on it. The cut is less than 2 inches long, and is just deep enough that I can feel it with my fingernail. I am just wondering if this is something that will damage my razor when I start to use it, or should I consider returning it for a different one.

Thanked: 634First question! Did you use a sharp edge to open the box? If not contact straight razor design about the problem. I am sure they will work with you.

does not look like anything that would damage a razor to me, but if thats a manufacturer defect, then its up to you wether you want to try to have it replaced or not

Thanked: 0The box the strop came in opens on each end, not down the middle. I did use a knife to open the end of the box. The strop was sealed in a heavy gauge plastic bag and then wrapped in a large amount of paper. There were no marks on the plastic where the cut is, so what ever happened to it happened to it before it was put in the bag. I will call them tomorrow and see what they say.

Thanked: 351Leather workers use sharp things to make stuff.... It's a bummer they didn't catch that oops, but things happen. SRD will make it right, no worries.
As for it doing damage to a razor... nope, but it should not be there on a brand new SRD premium strop.

Thanked: 4826Perhaps you can just get a replacement leather sent, as opposed to exchanging the entire strop.

I find that a vigorous rub from the oil on the palm of my hand can "erase" minor scratches
