    Good Morning, lz6,

Sorry about the indiscretion. I hadn't thought of that subject except objectively. In no manner did I intend it to mean anything other. After all, Probably 99% view shaving as a method of hair removal with no other connotation. Moreover, I had no intention of shaving her anything, especially with a straight razor. I don't even know how to shave another. For all of my life, I've shaved only myself.

Years ago, when surgeons removed hair prior to surgery, I've had nurses shave a knee and under an arm preparatory to open surgeries. I paid very close attention to what the heck they were doing. That's the way I roll. When people get close to me with sharp or cutting objects, I tend to get nervous and pay attention.

The topic of this thread is as indicated: do women use straight razors for grooming? I had no clue since I haven't even owned one for a month, and I've never used one. I do know that my girlfriend has affinity for all things antique, which was basis for my question. And last Friday she did connect my brand spanking new straight razor to antiques.

I am thinking of buying a straight razor for my girlfriend. Before I drop a couple hundred bucks on one, I thought it prudent to first figure out whether women use them. Because of your most knowledgeable posters here, especially the poster who had posted the link to the Razor Queen, I'm more comfortable about shaving off some of my bank account balance on a straight razor for her. And because of her asking me last Friday whether a straight razor is considered antique, I know that if she uses it only a few times, she'll derive aesthetic pleasure from it.

There is a huge difference between "acting like an idiot" and having an adult conversation about shaving, including shaving bikini lines. This is a shaving site. We talk about shaving. Are there children on here? Grown ones perhaps. But anybody old enough to shave, is old enough to engage in an adult conversation provided its kept clean. I'm not sure what puritan mindset has taken root here where even the THOUGHT of "GASP!" a bikini line, sends shudders of fear and panic through the forum.

Perhaps there should be an out right ban on discussing any portion of the anatomy that is not leg or face related.
Me? you dont even want to KNOW what I'll be shaving tonight, it might scar you permanently.

    Hi Magpie,

I've found nothing offensive in any post on this thread. Kids could watch most TV shows and become exposed to far, far worse. But it's not my call.

I was surprised that men shave their wives' or girlfriends' legs. I've never tried it. If I were to try to shave my girlfriend's legs, I won't be thinking about anything other than paying attention to what I'm doing.

I have a high school friend. We met a few years ago for a platonic evening out. She told me that when she was younger, she allowed men to shave her legs. I made no judgment about it. In fact, I had forgotten about it until this thread. Knowing what I don't know is whether a woman would allow her husband or boyfriend to shave her legs because she wants to be pampered.

My sentiments about a woman allowing her husband or boyfriend to shave her legs is that she'd have to have complete trust in him. I use a Fusion now. When I'm shaving, I pay complete attention to what I'm doing. Even a Fusion will cut the heck outta my face if I'm not paying attention.

BTW, my girlfriend told me today that the latest rages among women are eyelash extensions and a process that causes women's eyebrows to look thicker. My guess is that estheticians are diversifying because women aren't waxing as much as when it was all the rage. I can't see a woman spending 70 bucks for a complete waxing when she can do the same thing at her convenience at close to 70 bucks less. Why wax when a woman could shave for next to nothing and at her convenience?

I do have a very practical side to me.

    Take care,

    TB

Iz6 -I believe this is directed to me. I understand what you are saying and you are entitled to censure my comments if you find them inappropriate being the moderator (I think). I guess there are just too many thin skin people out there that haven't experienced life and that's pretty sad. However.....

So as to keep in the good graces of all of you, I apologize if I have offended you or anyone else by my comments. They are mine and I own them. I will always faithfully tell you what I think, whether we agree or disagree. In this country, I think we can still agree to disagree agreeably.

For a few others posting here remarks about shaving a women's nether regions is not appropriate here or anywhere else on SRP.
It was mentioned in this thread that at one time we did have a section for women's wetshaving. We removed that forum because some of our members could not resist acting like complete idiot's.

FWIW, I don't think anyone had crossed a serious line in this thread, but it seemed to be heading in that direction. Given the (recent) past experience with the women's section, I think it was appropriate to steer this thread back on course.

Anyway... back to the question at hand.

Straights can give excellent shaves. Period. However the caveat is that they will give excellent shaves after considerable time and effort has gone into mastering all the variables that come into play.

Will a straight razor one day be ideal for her? Perhaps.

Is a safety razor ideal for her *now*? Probably. And I'd agree that it is an excellent suggestion.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

Here's my advice if/when she gets ready for a straight.
Buy her something BOTH of you would want/use.

If she decides that SR isn't for her...BAM you've got a new SR!

I have shaved my wife's legs and my daughter's legs both. My daughter is around forty by the way. My wife's hands shake too much to even use a safety razor and usually uses an electric razor. My daughter just wanted to try because she heard that at times I shave her mom's legs with a straight razor. My wife commented that it was done so fast. I told her that one of the reasons it was so fast was that the blade was a lot larger than a safety razor and with an electric you have to go over it several times. They both enjoyed it and like it that it was done so fast. By the way, AcesandEights, I did not notice the blade getting appreciably dulled by their leg hair? I can't believe that their leg hair could be any thicker than some men's beards. But, milage varies ya know.

I have a tough beard, I cant get more than 3 shaves from a safety razor. When shaving legs, I have encountered some legs that the hairs were neigh invulnerable in comparison. But even normal hair will require extra stopping at the very least. Keep in mind just how much area one is shaving. a face is about the skin on the back of a small womans calf. You have two legs there. So figure you are shaving at least 4 faces worth.

You make a very good point that I had not thought of, area of a face versus a woman's calf. In saying that, I forgot that you were talking about your using a safety razor. A few shaves and out they go. I can use a straight razor for a month or two or three with only having to strop the blade a bit before having to touch up the edge with CrOx on a felt strop. Yup, a straight razor is the way to go for legs in my opinion.

I find this a very intriguing topic. I recently got my girlfriend to give a brush a try and she seemed to enjoy it. Perhaps I can get her converted to a safety razor or straight razor as well...
