Thanked: 0hello from london uk
greetings,
just to introduce myself;
brand new to this forum and straight shaving in general and looking to buy my first razor.
thought it would be great to meet other uk based enthusiasts on this forum.
perhaps you could offer pointers on where to buy razors or honing services in the uk.
also with my VERY sensitive skin perhaps you have come across a cream or soap which i could use.
best wishes everyone,
derek

Hi Derek, I've sent you a PM but I'll post here too.
Due to the exchange rates you're probably much better buying a razor from the USA, either from an e-tailer like www.classicshaving.com, or alternatively one from a member of SRP.

I echo Iwan's thoughts: you're better off buying from someone on the forum. Bear in mind if you buy from a US-based business online you're likely to pay VAT as well as brokerage fee from ParcelForce, but from an individual on the forum it's less likely (but still possible). A £25 spend in the US can attract up to £16 extra in fees and tax!
Check out www.carterandbond.com -- not a place for deals as such, but it has a very wide range of products, including for sensitive skin.
Finally, go for a hot towel shave at any of the old school barbers like Truefitt & Hill (St James Street, Green Park), Trumpers (Curzon Street), Taytlors of Old Bond Street.
And, of course, welcome to the forum and don't forget to add your position to the google map on here -- I won't feel so lonely being the only Londoner!!
Cheers
M.

Thanked: 0Thanks
Thank you all for your suggestions.
It's surreal.
In the last few minutes I decided to order my first razor from the U.S. (the place Iwan suggested) together with the honing from Lynn, received a reply from Colleen about shaving cream and decided to book an appointment at Truefitt and Hill.
Mark, I think you are making a lot of sense about possible extra charges.
My idea is to limit the unknown to the minimum as I am learning and on Iwan's suggestion will get the razor honed by Lynn.
BTW I live in Frognal and would welcome any help in adding my location to the google map.(I am not very clear where to start).
Thank you Iwan for the PM as well as replying to my post.
Happy shaving!
Derek

They look to be pretty good decisions so far! Especially the Lynn-honed razor.
For Googlemap, go to the homepage, click on Googlemap on the menu bar at the top, then click on You Entry and read the instructions from there. (The map defaults to North America view but you can drag it across to UK.)
Cheers
