Thanked: 580It is a bit of a rabbit hole, but a lot of fun learning new skills.
There are worse things you could be spending your money on.
2 or 3 razors is a good start point. If you damage one or need a re hone, you have a couple to use in the meantime.
There are always nice razors for sale here on the classifieds at very fair prices. Doubt they gonna run out any time soon.

Yes they all look like deals in the beginning. Stick with what you have right now. Your likes and dislikes will change dramatically in the first year. Sounds like your doing well. Save some money for HAD and SAD. There coming. Best of luck to you.

Glad to see that you are most certainly hooked on the sport. You will be shaving with confidence and skill in no time, just keep it up and don't rush the progress.
The discovery that a once mundane grooming activity can be made so engaging still surprises me.--Mark

This ^ ^ ^
If someone told me up to even a couple months ago how they could show me a way that would make me really enjoy shaving, I would not have been able to help myself from kind of laughing at them.
I got the GD because I just thought straights looked really cool, and it wouldn't cost very much to try using one.
Actually enjoying using it, (or any razor for that matter) was very surprising.
I have no idea how to try to put my finger on it, but there it is.Last edited by Jwtruth45; 06-07-2017 at 03:23 PM.

I couldn't figure out what HAD and SAD were pertaining to shaving stuff.
Google is usually my friend, but...Mark ~

Hone Acquisition Disorder (HAD)
Straight-razor Acquisition Disorder (SAD)
Razor Acquisition Disorder (RAD)
I suffer from all of the above....

Thanks for that.
I guess I'll see that, when I wonder away from the beginner part a little more.
I'm pretty sure I'm going to be working a few more hours here and there. I've always had an addictive personality, but I can live with this one I guess.

Awesome Mark!! I started a few months back and I am with you on being hooked. I have no idea why. I get easier and better results from my DEs, but still can't put down my straights. Just can't explain it.
Good luck with your journey.
