    Default Hello from Bangalore, India

    Hello,

Thanks for accepting me to your forums.

I am new to the world of SER's and have been looking around the last few weeks, till I stumbled upon the SRP. What a store house of information and experience!

I am looking for your advice. I would like to go in for a razor that would suit a reasonably sensitive skin, a moderately tough beard and an inexperienced straight edge razor user. I am prepared to spend about $200 for the Razor, Strop and hone. If i can get a honed and ready to use razor, then the $ is for the razor and the strop.

I am partial to some of these that i list below, for no other reason than the looks and the rounded tip.

    1. From Vintage Blades:

    2. Straightrazorplace limited edition:

    4. Again from Classic Shaving:

Sorry for a rather long post.

Thanks very much for your inputs gentlemen.

You have excellent taste... all very fine razors...

Just wondering... given your country's history (like mine) there is probably any number of very good british razors laying around in second hand stores along with strops and hones... how commonly do you see them?

Tony Miller does a very very good starter set with a basic dovo razor that makes it difficult to recommend anything else.

I didnt get one of these set when i started out because i didnt know about them but i did get one of the razors included from a razor shop in brisbane and it remains today one of the favourites in my rotation.

You've come to the right place anyway... I wouldnt still be shaving with a straight without the info and advice gotten from this site.

    Smile Welcome, smaiitm

You're certainly looking at some class blades, that's for sure. I'd also recommend that you look a Tony Miller's offerings at www.thewellshavedgentleman.com. There's always room for another blade in the rotation a little further down the road.

Almost all those razors break your budget requirement. I suggest you work backwards and look at hones and strops first. I know its not the sexy way to buy stuff but those are important parts of the process.

Have fun anyway, if you want any of those razors they are all good. You don't have to make reasonable choices, you can live a little and just get whatever you want. Sometimes the point here is to do something good for yourself and be indulgent.

Thanks very much for your suggestions and guidance. Much appreciated.

I am in touch with a few people who are active in this forum. Expect more from me as I eventually do get a razor and start using it.

    Thanks again folks.

    Default Tony Miller's Starter Kit

    Gentlemen

I went with your advice and ordered a "Super Straight Razor Set" with both the hanging and paddle strops included. Of course the paddle strop will have 3 sides coated with abrasives. The set will find its way to India through a friend. I can't wait to get started.

Thanks for your valuable inputs. It is very much appreciated.

Thanks Tony for your superb service and patience in dealing with a newbie like me.

Great to see that you have a set that will work for you. Tony is a great guy to talk with and see about a starter kit. Hope everything goes well with your startings in the coming weeks.
