Thanked: 2First Shaves..notched razor?
First of all Hello,
I've just started using a straight razor...
Got a Dovo last week...strop, trumpers shaving cream, silver tip brush, moisturising cream... kinda the full startup shooting match....
I have used a screw type safety razor for years with single blades so moving to a straight razor hasn't been too tough....
In the past three days i've shaved twice 3 passes each time....first was as good as expected and the second today burns a little...due to my skin not being up to it I think....still no cuts and like a baby's bum..very happy.
However on close inspection the razor edge has a tiny notch in it...perhaps less thana millimetre but it can be seen if you rotate the blade under light.
How bad is this? Any help would be appreciated and can it be got rid of easily if needed?
thanks in advance
Daniele

Hi Daniele and welcome to the forum!
Was your Dovo brand new and it had the dink in it when you received it? If so, I recommend you send it back and have them replace it.
It sounds like it wouldn't take too much honing out, but you'd need to know what you were doing. Many of the honemeisters on here would be able to help if you contact them (see Honing forum).
Good luck
M.

Thanked: 2thankyou..thats the thing i can't say for definite if it was like that out of the box. It was brand new and though it doesnt seem to scratch me..when i stropped it gently on the hanging strop it does draw a feint line down.. Just wondered if its an absolute don't use or will stropping bring it out.
I'll look on the honing section, but as i've never honed a blade i don't wanna mess it up.
thanks again for the reply
Daniele

I think you should send it back. If you aren't aware you knocked it against something, then it's fair to assume it was there before. If you spend that much money on a straight (Dovos aren't cheap) then it's reasonable to expect it to be perfect out of the box.
Whatever you decide, don't try to hone it yourself. Get in touch with Lynn Abrams (forum name: adjustme69) about honing services.

I concur. Send it back straight away (groan).
