Just get a good razor that fits the strap.

Those types of razors are known for having poor steel and/or a poor grind. The poor steel results in a blade edge that feels like sandpaper and usually will not hold an edge. The poor grind makes it very difficult to hone properly.

The leather may be useful as a pasted paddle strop. Maybe.
