BTW, I'm no genius or honemeister. That's stuff pulled straight (no pun) out of old barber books and tips from around here.

By the way: stropping is best done after the shave as you wrote correctly. This gives the metal a chance to realign. This is also why there are 7-days sets of razors available. The idea is that you let Monday's razor rest for a week before using it again and the very thin edge of metal had a weeks time to realign itself.

    Me?

You're saying you don't strop before you shave?

No you are suppose to strop it before the shave, this will take out the little micro burrs and such that are left from the last shave. It re-aligns the edge and tip.

    colmustang,

If the strop was new when you received it and those nicks are something which developed from your stropping, it appears that you are reversing direction in your strop stroke before lifting the edge from the strop. If this is the case, that may be what is damaging the edge. From attempts at honing, I am learning how delicate these edges are and if you rotate the edge of the razor up while it is slightly embedded in the strop, you can easily be causing the nicks in the blade that you are feeling.

Indeed it should heal the damage you did to the blade while shaving. So, strop it right after you shaved and leave it alone for at least a day. Preferably seven days. (that's why the 7-day sets are sold) Then use the rested and 'auto-sharpened' blade for your next shave without stropping it. Definately the best way!

No you strop it before a shave.. NOT after it.

it will get dull after the shave if you strop and leave it for the during of even a night.
