Default Identifying materials of handles (Ivory and bone)

I am new to straight razors.. I recently bought one from an antique store and I thought the handle was bone or ivory but a friend believes it to be celluloid. Any help with this would be great?

A search up top-right on the subject will provide a plethora of threads on the subject.
You also could search the razors subforum or post pictures of it there in a new thread for best results.

Once you hold Ivory in your hand you will realize there is nothing that feels like it.

Of course you initially need to have some.

We have discussed this at length on the site so there is plenty to research here.

A pic would be very helpful to us to help you find your answer. Tom gave some great links to help you find out too. Welcome and take a little time to learn the forum. It takes a little but its not to hard to pick up. So as they say in MO, show me!

    Here’s the Readers Digest version.

Ivory scales are usually thinner than Celluloid, some much thinner, almost always pinned collarless, just pins, and are quality razors, no Gold Dollars.

If you pass the 3 above, maybe…

The thread listed are full of great information, pic of beautiful razors, and worth reviewing, the late Pixelfixed was a true Ivory expert.
