Still a long way till I can see the finish line, but she's getting there. Sanding has been slow going though without power tools, and the steel appears to be hard as sh**.
Not quite sure what I'm gonna do for the scales yet, but figured I'd post an update. Hope ya'll had a great Thanksgiving!!

Laramie
Merry Christmas
Are you changing sanding directions when you change grit?
You can get bellies on the blade face if you always sand in the same direction.
Some blades are hard to sand initially. After you sand awhile the sanding gets fasterIf you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I know how ya feel, most all of my blade work is done by hand. On occasion, I'll break out the dremmel and greaseless for first contact, the rest is by hand.
For me, I stop at 600 grt., then switch to 800grt. Crocus paper and go at it till the paper is worn out. Then to Emory, red rouge, and Cr/Ox on a rag by hand. Then a final polish with you favorite metal polish, like Flitz or Maas, Mothers.
Its a lot of work, but the reward is worth it.

I have used Caswell Horse brand sandpaper years.
They are having a 25% sale today. Black Friday!
They are out of 1000 grit, though. They have 14 grits up to 3000 grit.
I too sand with a piece until there is no cutting. Switch direction and go to the next grit.If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

I'm still on 400 now, so haven't changed grits yet. But I do alternate my pattern occasionally. Thanks for the input guys, I'll be sure to avoid going the same direction for too long.
