Default Hi! Help getting into SR shaving!

Hi, Well i have been shaving with a DE razor for a while now, but I have always wanted a SR to shave with.

So my Partner is going to get me one as one of my xmas gifts

Now she wants to make sure what she is getting is ok, and TBH i dont have much more of an idea myself.

    i like this razor

    http://www.hairscissors.co.uk/produc...roductListings

    and there is this strop

    http://www.hairscissors.co.uk/produc...roductListings

Are these two ok together? and what paste will i need?

I intend to get to send it off to be honed, as I understand this is quite an art

I already have my brush/soap as I used this with DE shaving

Anything else I will need? and also any sites to help teach me hop to sharpen it?

    Thanks guys

    Phil

yeah they look ok as long as you send it off to be honed cos it wont be shave ready when it arrives, have you thought about buying a shave ready razor from the buy/sell/trade section on this forum they are well priced and you know it will be a good un.
you dont need to look any further than this site for any advice, tips and help as everyone is very helpful.
btw welcome, i assume your another uk member

I switched to a straight after shaving with a DE for a while also. Welcome to the world of SR shaving.

Humm, I'm not sure. If your partner would like to send them to me I'd be happy to give them a test drive for a month or three and let you know how they perform.

But, seriously, those look fine to this fellow newbie as long as you have the razor hand-honed by a honemeister.

For daily stropping - none. Strop pastes are not for daily use.

Patience, grasshopper. Your first few shaves won't be spectacular. It take time to get the technique down. Take it slow and steady and you will gradually get the hang of it.

looks like you're a lucky man. watch out though, the prevalent experience shows that as you start shaving you become prone to catching an AD or two and Partners become very suspicious about all the countless packages arriving at your door... just something to be mindful of

not sure, but i think at least one member, poona, offers honing service in UK, there are several others in europe. you'll notice it in few member's signatures as you read threads in this site.
